Like the root of a tree, the root of a tooth is what keeps it in place and healthy. When the root of a tooth is damaged it weakens the entire tooth and eventually completely damages the tooth. This can be very painful and the tooth has to be removed. For cosmetic or functional purposes the tooth is usually replaced with an artificial one.
To prepare the mouth for the new tooth we insert a dental implant, or an artificial root, directly into the jaw bone. This acts as an anchor to the new tooth and gives it something to be attached to. The artificial tooth is then attached to the implant to complete the procedure.
With the help of dental implants you can once again have your full smile and full use of your mouth back.
